COSHA ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM ‘MT. PLEASANT’
LATEST SINGLE ‘RUN THE TRACK’ OUT THURS MAY 6TH
ALBUM OUT JULY 2ND
‘Mt. Pleasant’ is the debut album from Dublin-born, London-based vocalist and songwriter Cosha (pn. ‘kosh-ah’), arriving July 2nd. The latest single ‘Run The Track’ is available to buy and stream from Thursday 6th May.
Named after the area in Dublin, where Cosha — born Cassia O’Reilly — was raised, her first album sees her create a space in which she can find freedom, comfort and be herself in the music.
Started in LA and finished in London, ‘Mt. Pleasant’ is Cosha’s missive on building a home away from home. The latest single to be taken from the album, ‘Run The Track’, was made in LA with producer
Rostam, known for his work on
Clairo’s ‘Immunity’ and
Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’.
Cosha says: “It’s a rhythmic banger that will move you physically and emotionally. It deals with the often bizarre courtship stage in a new relationship/friendship where you’re still figuring that person out and getting to know their nuances, maybe questioning your interpretations of their actions. It’s that journey from the delicate beginning through to a stronger, more concrete terrain; not ending, because a real friendship doesn’t end it just keeps growing stronger the more love you put into it… and if you’re not trying to get too deep with it, that’s cool. It just bangs. Let it move you.”
Described by The Guardian as “gaspingly-sexy R&B”, by the NME as “fearless” and dubbed a “one-of-a-kind star” by Resident Advisor, heat has built around Cosha’s ‘Mt. Pleasant’ since the release of first single ‘No Kink In The Wire’ last October. Since then, singles from the album have had regular rotation on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, NTS and Foundation FM, alongside press support from titles like Clash, District, Stereogum, Resident Advisor, British Vogue, i-D, Nialler9, Golden Plec and many more.
The rich creative world around the album was born from collaborations with music video director Gilbert Bannerman, graphic designer Alice Gavin and photographers Roger Weiss and Lillie Eiger.
“When I think about what I love about the music I love and start dissecting, all those songs make me feel like I have company, made me feel more at home,” says Cosha.
“I wanted this album to be somewhere you can retreat to for companionship, something that leaves you feeling light and liberated. It’s called ‘Mt. Pleasant’ because that was my home. Maybe this album can be a home for someone else now.”
